Why are Textiles important to the UK economy?

Textiles are a means of producing valuable items out of fabric. These can be bedsheets, tablecloths or clothes. The United Kingdom once had a textile mill on every doorstep. The current narrative in the mainstream media is that the days of having a mill on every doorstep in the United Kingdom is over.

What if there was still a way of reversing what has happened to the United Kingdom decline in the size of the industrial landscape. At a time of growing uncertainty and with countries both western and non-western aggressively putting their own interest first it is important now more than ever that the UK can produce textiles at home.

A key part of this should be for the United Kingdom to be able to have our own set of Textile Mills so that the UK is spinning and weaving the fabric at home. Investing in the textile sector will help to give it a future and keep in existence the communities that have developed because of the past industrialisation and will help make possible a reversal of de-industrialisation.
