Ever wondered if buying products manufactured in Britain is important? The simple answer is, yes, it is. In the past 25 years, manufacturing jobs have dropped from 4 million down to 2.7 million in the UK. And yet there are so many reasons to back
manufacturing in this country.
Manufacturing supports local communities. Whether it’s a car plan, or a small artisan firm, manufacturing brings money back in the community. It also brings a sense of pride, and given the quality British manufacturers produce can contribute to
growing the UK economy. With my own company which sells quality cotton t-shirts, many of my customers buy my products because they are made in Britain and this trend has been increasing.
Manufacturing requires skills and can be a great magnet for young people to develop skills when they leave education. A growing manufacturing sector will be an opportunity to develop apprenticeships and traineeships for young people.
There is always a demand for products even in a recession, but your purchasing decisions can make a difference to the British manufacturing sector, especially when times are tough.
When you are choosing something to buy, look for the Made in Britain label and support our communities.
